To the Class of 2024,
Did you have a teacher in high school who made a difference in your life? Someone whose teaching inspired you, and whose dedication helped you on your path? If you did, I invite you to nominate them for the 2024 Olmsted Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching.
Every year the college honors several teachers (any subject!) with the Olmsted Prize by bringing them to Williamstown during Commencement weekend and presenting each of them with an award, along with a $3,000 individual prize and an additional $5,000 for their school. The recipients are also celebrated at a special dinner and during Ivy Exercises.
Past recipients report being incredibly honored by the tribute from their former students and say the Olmsted events are among the most memorable moments in their careers. The program is also a great chance for Williams to honor teachers and teaching by publicly thanking some of the devoted people who helped you and your fellow students get here. In that spirit, the President’s office recognizes each nominee with a Certificate of Nomination and an official notification to their school principal.
I invite each of you to nominate a teacher who had a profound impact on your life. You’ll find all the necessary information—including guidelines and a nomination form—on the Olmsted Website.
The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, January 9. Please take this opportunity to participate in one of Williams’ most wonderful traditions.
Sincerely,
Maud
